Jamie Paz is a graduate of the Rutgers University Nurse Anesthesia program in 2013. She currently practices at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia and a member of NJANA. She is also a Certified Instructor for the American Heart Association’s BLS ACLS PALS course.

COVID-19 Implications for Anesthesia Practice: Part 1
Presenter: Kimberly Westra, DNP, CRNA

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the physiological mechanism of COVID 19 infection in the perioperative anesthesia care of patients
  2. List the infection control steps required to provide evidence-based anesthesia care COVID 19 positive patients.

Kimberly Westra is has been practicing anesthesia for over 20 years in many settings including hospital based, solo practice, ambulatory settings. Mrs. Westra is the Chief Nurse Anesthetist at Tidal Health in Salisbury Maryland. Kimberly is an adjunct faculty at University of Pennsylvania and clinical site coordinator for Old Dominion University, University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins Nurse Anesthesia Programs. Kimberly lectures at the state and national level or a variety of topics in anesthesia, perioperative care, business of healthcare and leadership topics. Kim resides in Ocean City Maryland with her family enjoying the beach, crabbing and fishing.

Art of Negotiating
Presenter: Tracy Young, MSN, MBA, CRNA

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the preparation, approach, and strategies for negotiations, applicable to various situations.
  2. Identify the opportunities and challenges for anesthesia services contract negotiations.

Mr. Young Graduated with his Master’s in Science Nurse Anesthesia from Texas Wesleyan University in 2001 and immediately began his practice providing anesthesia services to several facilities in Louisiana.  In 2003, Mr. Young founded YPS Anesthesia, an anesthesia management and consulting company.  Mr. Young also received a Master’s in Business Administration-Healthcare from the George Washington University in 2008 and is currently the CEO of YPS Anesthesia.  His time is divided between clinical and administrative duties as he oversees the operations and growth of YPS Anesthesia and its subsidiaries which includes exclusive anesthesia contracts at over 65 facilities in 7 states and over 450 anesthesia providers.  Mr. Young also has diverse investment holdings inside and outside of healthcare as well as sitting on several for-profit and non-profit boards and speaks nationally on many anesthesia business, regulatory and compliance topics.

Presenter: Lori Ann Winner, NJANA President

  1. Identify two state issues impacting CRNA practice.
  2. Discuss strategies that can be incorporated into daily practice to positively impact CRNA practice.

Lori Ann Winner is the current president of NJANA.  She is a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania in the Nurse Anesthesia program and works at numerous other facilities as an independent contractor in the NJ & PA area.  She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and her research focus was on practice initiatives and outcomes with the opt-out policy enactment.  She also serves on the NBCRNA CPC oversight committee.
